Pro-Ject rejuvinated the vinyl industry when it produced the Debut about a decade ago. The Debut has evolved and, a few years back, was joined by the more affordable Genie. Well, the Genie has also improved and is now in its 3rd version.
Changes to the previous Genie include a new tonearm, motor and base, and a power switch is conveniently postitioned by the motor. As before, the latest Genie is a fully-manual, belt-driven turntable.
Pro-Ject never skimps on cartridges it supplies with turntables and, as usual for the company, a good Ortofon cartridge comes with the Genie.
A Genie 3 with a matt black finish costs just £185 but the gloss black finish is well worth the extra £15. Other gloss finishes available are white and red.
If you're looking for a record deck and your three wishes are for it to sound great, be inexpensive and have a distinctive appearance, the Pro-Ject Genie 3 grants all three. |
